Green’s 17 leads Alabama past Troy 79-60
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP)—JaMychal Green scored 17 points to lead four Alabama players in double figures in a 79-60 win over Troy on Monday night.
Senario Hillman finished with 16 points, freshman Trevor Releford had 13 and Tony Mitchell 12 for the Crimson Tide. Green and Mitchell had seven rebounds each and Releford tallied six assists.
Bernard Toombs had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Troy (1-1), and Vernon Taylor and Shawntez Patterson added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Leading 15-12, Alabama (2-0) went on a 28-10 run for a 43-22 lead on a layup by Releford with 2:51 left in the first half. Troy then outscored the Crimson Tide 10-4 to make the score 47-32 at halftime.
The closest Troy would get in the second half was 58-45, before the Crimson Tide scored 19 of the next 23 points, extending their lead to 77-49 on a 3-point shot by Charvez Davis with 3:36 remaining.
“I thought we played in spurts that were very good, and spurts that were not so good,” Alabama coach Anthony Grant said. “So we’ve got to learn to play for 40 minutes. Our defense triggered (the good spurts). Anytime you get stops in the half court or from the press, it gets us in transition. We were able to get in a rhythm and get some shots to fall.”
Grant also liked the balanced scoring and teamwork displayed by his team.
“I thought we could have a team that would have a balanced attack,” Grant said. “That’s going to be critical for us. And 19 assists—I love the level of unselfishness that our team is playing with. I thought we had moments tonight that our guys could see the benefits of the work that they put in on a daily basis.”
