Hansbrough leads Notre Dame past Liberty 72-51
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP)—Ben Hansbrough scored 19 points to lead cold-shooting Notre Dame to a 72-51 victory over Liberty on Sunday.
It was the second straight game that Hansbrough had led his team in scoring. His 3-pointer at the 2:30 mark of the first half ended an eight-minute scoring drought by the Irish and pushed them to a 41-22 halftime edge.
David Minaya led the Flames (1-1) with 12 points. Tyrone Nash added 16 for Notre Dame (2-0), including a 12-for-15 effort from the free throw line.
Liberty closed the gap to 15 twice early in the second half, but the Irish responded both times. Notre Dame shot 42 percent while holding Liberty to 36 percent.
Notre Dame plays its third game in five days Wednesday night against Chicago State.
