Creighton tops Alabama State 71-57

OMAHA, Neb. (AP)—Antoine Young scored 21 points as Creighton topped Alabama State 71-57 on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

Young led four Bluejays players who scored double digits. Doug McDermott added 16 points in his debut for the school while Jahenns Manigat scored 12 and Kenny Lawson Jr., 11.

The team shot 24 of 28 from the free-throw line in taking its 16th straight home-opening win.

The Hornets held it close in the first half, leading several times in the period and trailing just 33-30 at halftime.

But the Bluejays took the lead for good with about 16 minutes left on a jumper by Young.

Kenderek Washington led Alabama State in scoring with nine points.
