Portland stands strong in 67-57 win over Army
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP)—Ethan Niedermeyer scored a season-high 14 points and Luke Sikma had 12 points and a career-high 19 rebounds to lead Portland to a 67-57 victory over Army on Saturday.
The Pilots (9-5) led most of the way, but they struggled with shooting, especially from the foul line where they made just 13 of 26 attempts.
Portland took the lead for good when Taishi Ito made a 3-pointer to give Portland an 8-6 lead early in the first half. Ito’s hoop was part of an 18-0 run that eventually pushed the Pilots’ lead to 20-6.
The Pilots led 39-26 at halftime after nine first-half points by team leader Nik Raivio.
Army (9-4) rallied twice in the second half to close the deficit first to five points and later to four. The Black Knights started the second half with a 12-4 streak, which included five points each by Julian Simmons and Josh Miller to close the gap to 43-38.
