Loyola of Chicago tops SIU-Edwardsville, 79-61
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP)—Terrance Hill scored 23 points and Walt Gibler had 22, and Loyola of Chicago pulled away in the second half to defeat Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 79-61 on Sunday.
Loyola led 36-29 at the half, and it was still seven points with 13 minutes remaining when the Ramblers went on a 14-0 run to put the game out of reach. Marcus Thomas scored seven of his 12 points in that stretch.
Hill also had six steals and Andy Polka grabbed 11 rebounds for the Ramblers (8-2). Loyola shot 49 percent from the field in the game, led by Gibler’s 7-for-9 performance.
Mark Yelovich led SIU-Edwardsville (2-9) with 18 points, and Aamir McCleary scored 13. The Cougars made 39 percent of their shots.
