Gilmore leads American to 61-60 win over Army
WASHINGTON (AP)—Brian Gilmore scored 19 points and made one of his two free throws with 3.6 seconds left to lead American University to a 61-60 win against Army in the Patriot League semifinals on Sunday afternoon.
Gilmore also hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 60 with 42 seconds left. Earlier in the second half, Gilmore reeled off 12 straight points to pull American (23-7) back from an 11-point deficit.
Garrison Carr scored 17 for the Eagles, who have now won 12 straight games— and 11 in a row at home. American will host the Patriot League championship on Friday as it attempts to repeat last year’s NCAA Tournament bid.
Cleveland Richard led Army (11-19) with 16 points, but his final half-court shot at the buzzer fell just short of the rim. Josh Miller scored 15.
