Old Dominion beats Hofstra 52-51
RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Darius James hit two free throws with 20.2 seconds left and Jonathan Adams blocked a Hofstra shot at the buzzer to help Old Dominion beat Hofstra 52-51 on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.
Gerald Lee scored a career-high 30 points for the fourth-seeded Monarchs (21-9), who won despite missing 11 of 19 free-throw attempts. Old Dominion will play top-seeded Virginia Commonwealth in the semifinals on Sunday.
Lee went 13 of 19 from the floor and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Charles Jenkins led the Pride (21-11) with 27 points for the second straight game.
James sank two foul shots to push Old Dominion’s lead to 52-49 with just over 20 seconds left. Jenkins then hit a jumper for Hofstra that would prove to be the final margin and, after a turnover by James, Jenkins’ shot at the buzzer was blocked by Adams.
