ST. LOUIS (AP)—Kwadzo Ahelegbe and Adam Koch scored 19 points apiece and top seed Northern Iowa avoided a free throw meltdown in the final minute of a 73-69 victory over Indiana State in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament Friday.
Rashad Reed had 21 points and Jay Tunnell added 17 points and eight rebounds for Indiana State, which had won seven of its last nine. The Sycamores (11-21) led by six with just under nine minutes to go before a 15-2 run put Northern Iowa ahead for good.
Northern Iowa (21-10) missed five of seven free throws in the final minute and its lead had shrunk to two points before a pair at the line from Ali Farokhmanesh, who added 13 points, finally clinched it.
The Panthers, who shared the regular-season conference title with Creighton, are 4-4 in their last eight games.
