Delaware St. beats Maryland-Eastern Shore 74-60
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP)—Donald Johnson scored a career-high 31 points and Delaware State defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore 74-60 Thursday night, ending a four-game skid in the final regular-season game for both teams.
Johnson, who was averaging 12 points per game, was 8 of 13 from the field and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line for the Hornets (8-23, 6-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
The Hawks (7-22, 3-13) opened the second half with an 8-4 run to close within 41-35, but the Hornets responded with a 14-2 spurt to lead 55-37 with 11:47 left. Maryland-Eastern Shore could get no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Fred Bouie added 11 points for Delaware State, which beat Maryland-Eastern Shore for the 11th straight time, and Marcus Neal added 10.
Neal Pitt scored 22 points to lead the Hawks, who have lost four in a row and 10 of their last 11.
