Richmond defeats Charlotte 64-62
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Kevin Anderson scored 24 points, including the game-winner, and Richmond held off a second-half rally to beat Charlotte 64-62 on Tuesday night.
Anderson hit a driving layup with eight seconds remaining for the Spiders (16-14, 8-7 Atlantic 10), who won four straight over the 49ers and four of their last five games overall.
Lamont Mack had career highs of 32 points and 14 rebounds for Charlotte (11-18, 5-10), which outrebounded Richmond 40-26, but shot just 37.7 percent from the field (20 of 53) in losing for the third time in four games.
Down six points at the break, the 49ers whittled Richmond’s lead down to two on seven occasions in the second half, the last at 62-60 on a pair of Mack free throws with 2:03 left.
Mack tied the game at 62 on a spinning layup with 27.2 seconds remaining, but Anderson’s layup put the Spiders back in the lead.
