Hampton beats N. Carolina A&T 59-57
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP)—Darrion Pellum scored 14 points, including a layup with 7 seconds left to seal Hampton’s 59-57 win over North Carolina A&T on Monday night.
The Aggies led by 13 points at halftime, but the Pirates went on a 10-2 run to pull within 56-50 with 6:33 to play. But Thomas Coleman’s dunk 30 seconds later increased the Aggies’ margin to 58-50.
That would be North Carolina A&T’s last basket.
The Pirates would score seven unanswered points, including four by Pellum, to pull within 58-57 with 49 seconds left in the game. The Aggies’ Marc Hill missed a jumper to extend the lead with 15 seconds remaining, setting up Pellum’s game-winner at the other end.
Michael Freeman also added 14 points for the Pirates (14-15, 7-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
Coleman paced the Aggies (16-14, 9-6) with 11 points and 11 boards.
