St. Francis, Pa. beats Fairleigh Dickinson 78-59

LORETTO, Pa. (AP) —Cale Nelson scored 17 points in the final game of his career as St. Francis, Pa. beat Fairleigh Dickinson 78-59 in the season finale for both teams Saturday night.

St. Francis (6-23, 3-15 Northeast Conference) had lost 18 of its past 19 games and finished last in the 11-team league. Fairleigh Dickinson (7-23, 6-12) finished tied for ninth, and only the top eight teams advance to the conference tournament.

Nelson, a walk-on who has started for three seasons, hit five of six 3-pointers and also had 10 assists for the second double-double of his career, both coming in the past two games.

Steve Profeta had 12 points, Marquis Ford 11 and Grant Surprenant nine in the final game of their careers for St. Francis.

Kamil Svrdlik led Fairleigh Dickinson with 16 points while Terence Grier and John Galvin added 11 points each.
