Mississippi Valley beats Jackson State 73-67

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP)—Eric Petty scored 18 points and Mississippi Valley State rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit to defeat Jackson State 73-67 on Saturday night.

The Delta Devils (6-23, 6-10 Southwestern Athletic Conference) ended Jackson State’s eight-game winning streak.

The Tigers (13-14, 12-3) led 58-42 before Petty, who also had eight rebounds, hit a layup with 10:18 remaining in the game to begin the comeback.

Dwayne Harmason’s two free throws tied the score at 66-66 with 3:13 left and Julius Cheeks hit another free throw for a 67-66 advantage with 2:41 remaining.

The Delta Devils were 13 of 26 from the field (50 percent) in the second half.

Shannon Behling scored 15 points, Cheeks had 13 and Harmason finished with 12 points.

Jeremy Caldwell scored 25 points, Darrion Griffin had 19 and Garrison Johnson added 12 points for Jackson State.
