Centenary tops South Dakota St. 77-67
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP)—Nick Stallings scored 22 points and Centenary defeated South Dakota State 77-67 on Saturday, snapping an eight-game losing skid in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Maxx Nakwaasah added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Gary Redus II chipped in 11 for the Gentlemen (8-22, 6-12 Summit League), who avenged a 71-58 loss to the Jackrabbits on Dec. 4.
With South Dakota State (12-19, 7-11) ahead 50-46 with 11:16 left, Centenary went on a 19-0 run, capped by a Nakwaasah 3-pointer, to lead 65-50 with 6:17 remaining.
The Jackrabbits then used a 12-1 spurt, including six points from Clint Sargent, to pull within four points with 2:24 left, but could get no closer.
The Gentlemen hit 18 of 26 free throws in the second half.
Sargent scored 20 points to lead South Dakota State, which has lost four straight. Anthony Cordova added 13.
