Oakland beats IUPUI 81-76
INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Blake Cushingberry and Erik Kangas each hit two free throws in the closing seconds Saturday night as Oakland, Mich., held off a late rally to beat IUPUI 81-76.
Cushingberry finished with 24 points and Kangas added 17 for the Golden Grizzlies (18-11, 11-5 Summit), who led by as many as 20 points before the comeback by the Jaguars (15-13, 8-9).
Oakland still led 77-61 after a basket by Cushingberry with 4:31 remaining, but a 3-pointer by Adrian Moss started a 13-0 run that pulled IUPUI within 77-74 with 1:30 to go. Neither team scored until the two free throws by Cushingberry with 22 seconds left. Johnathon Jones then stole the ball and Kangas hit the clinching free throws with 13 seconds to go before a dunk by IUPUI’s Robert Glenn at the buzzer.
Glenn led the Jaguars with 18 points, while Leroy Nobles added 16. Keith Benson had 18 points for the Grizzlies and Jones had 15 rebounds.
