Hofstra beats Fairfield 61-56
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Charles Jenkins and Cornelius Vines scored 13 points apiece to lead Hofstra over Fairfield 61-56 Saturday night.
Vines hit a 3-pointer with 56 seconds left to give the Pride (19-9) a 54-51 lead and Hofstra shot 7-of-8 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win. Zygis Sestokas added 12 points.
Yorel Hawkins scored 18 points and added eight rebounds to lead the Stags (15-13), who have lost four straight. Herbie Allen had 15 points and Lyndon Jordan added 10.
Despite committing nine of their 17 turnovers in the first half, the Pride led 27-23 at the break.
Fairfield erased the lead with a 10-2 run to open the second half, taking a 33-29 advantage on a dunk from Hawkins at the 17:17 mark.
Hofstra countered with a 9-0 run to take a 38-33 edge, and the teams would trade leads until the final minute.
