Campbell knocks off S.C.-Upstate 51-47
BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP)—Jonathan Rodriguez and Preston Dodson each hit two free throws in the final two seconds to lift Campbell to a 51-47 victory over South Carolina-Upstate on Saturday.
Rodriguez was fouled with 2 seconds left and hit two free throws to give the Camels (12-15, 9-9 Atlantic Sun Conference) a 49-47 lead. Dodson was fouled with 1 second left and hit two more to help send the Spartans (7-20, 6-12) to their fourth consecutive loss.
Both teams were scoreless after the 2:08 minute mark until Rodriguez hit his free throws.
S.C.-Upstate took a 37-26 lead on Pat Posey’s free throw with 14:36 remaining. The Camels cut the lead to 40-38 on Dodson’s jumper with 4:58 remaining and tied the score at 40-40 on Kyle Vejraska’s tip-in with 4:17 left.
Lorne Merthie led Campbell with 10 points.
Bobby Davis scored 14 points to lead the Spartans.
