Belmont beats Kennesaw State 54-39
KENNESAW, Ga. (AP)—Keaton Belcher scored 12 points and Belmont’s defense held strong against Kennesaw State, winning 54-39 on Friday night to move into first place of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Bruins (17-9, 13-4), who won their third straight game, moved ahead of the Jacksonville Dolphins.
Matthew Dotson and Alex Renfroe each scored 11 points for Belmont, which held the Owls (7-19, 3-14) to 28.6 percent shooting from the field (14-for-49) and did not allow one player from Kennesaw State to score in double figures. Dotson had eight rebounds.
Belcher’s 3-pointer with 53 seconds left capped a 10-0 run by the Bruins in the first half to claim a 26-16 lead. Belmont took a 42-24 lead—its largest of the game—with 10:08 left in the second half on Jon House’s free throw to pull away.
Belmont shot 44.4 percent from the field (20-for-45).
