McNeese State defeats Northwestern State 88-74

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP)—Diego Kapelan hit a school-record nine 3-pointers and scored a career-high 37 points to lead McNeese State to an 88-74 victory over Northwestern State on Wednesday night.

Kapelan, who entered averaging 11.1 points a game, was 9 of 17 from the 3-point line for the Cowboys (11-13, 5-6 Southland Conference). He scored 21 points in the second half and finished with six rebounds, two assists, one steal and no turnovers.

John Pichon added 22 points to help send the Demons (10-16, 2-9) to their fourth loss in five games.

Northwestern State cut the lead to 60-54 with 10:52 to go, but Kapelan hit a pair of 3-pointers to help increase the lead to 76-58 with 5:45 remaining.

Kalem Porterie scored 14 points, Keithan Hancock had 13 and Michael McConathy added 11 for Northwestern State.
