Troy beats Western Kentucky 87-82
TROY, Ala. (AP)—Brandon Hazzard scored 35 points, including two free throws with 4 seconds left to seal Troy’s 87-82 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday night.
Hazzard hit one free throw to put Troy up 84-74 with less than one minute left, but Western Kentucky’s Jeremy Evans made it 84-76 with a tip-in with 30 seconds left. After another free throw by Hazzard, Orlando Mendez-Valdez and Steffphon Pettigrew each hit a 3-pointer to pull Western Kentucky within 85-82.
The Hilltoppers quickly fouled Hazzard, who had gone 1-for-2 on his previous two trips to the line, and he sank both shots to seal the win.
Kenny Ware added 18 points and Richard Delk had 14 for the Trojans (17-10, 12-3 Sun Belt Conference), who jumped Western Kentucky for second place in the conference with the win.
Mendez-Valdez and A.J. Slaughter scored 20 apiece for the Hilltoppers (17-8, 11-3).
