McNeese State tops Stephen F. Austin 59-56

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP)—John Pichon scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help McNeese State’s late rally in a 59-56 win over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.

Stephen F. Austin held a 56-50 lead on Eric Bell’s two free throws with 3:35 left in the game. But the Lumberjacks were held scoreless the rest of the way, as Kleon Penn and Diego Kapelan each made two free throws then John Pichon scored on a three-point play to give the Cowboys (10-13, 4-6 Southland Conference) a 57-56 lead with 1:45 remaining.

Penn, who finished with 11 points, scored on a dunk with 59 seconds left to seal the game for the McNeese State. Kapelan had 13 points.

The Cowboys shot 56.4 percent from the field (22-for-39) for the game—64.7 percent in a second half (11 of 17).

Matt Kingsley led the Lumberjacks (16-7, 8-3) with 22 points and Josh Alexander added 15.
