Louisiana-Monroe defeats Louisiana-Lafayette 73-69

MONROE, La. (AP)—Kenneth Averette and Dynile Forbes scored 16 points each to lead Louisiana-Monroe to a 73-69 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday night.

The Warhawks (9-15, 5-8 Sun Belt Conference) withstood a 23-9 run by the Ragin’ Cajuns (8-16, 5-8) in the final six minutes to split the season series. Louisiana-Lafayette defeated Louisiana-Monroe 86-58 on Dec. 15.

Forbes hit a layup to give the Warhawks a 64-46 lead with 6:16 remaining, but Randell Daigle keyed Louisiana-Lafayette’s run.

His fifth 3-pointer of the game cut the lead to 68-64 with 46 seconds left, but Louisiana-Monroe sealed the game at the free-throw line.

Daigle had a career-high six 3-pointers to finish with 23 points. La’Ryan Gary added 14 points for the Ragin’ Cajuns, who have lost six straight road games.

Afam Nweke added 12 points for Louisiana-Monroe.
