Long Beach State beats UC Riverside in 2 overtimes
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP)—Aaron Scott banked a 6-footer with 11.3 seconds left in double overtime, and Javon Borum hit two free throws with 5.1 seconds remaining to lift UC Riverside to a 73-70 victory Wednesday over Long Beach State.
Scott had 26 points and also hit a game-tying shot with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.
UC Riverside (14-9, 6-5 Big West) won its third straight while knocking the 49ers (12-11, 7-4) from first place in the conference.
The Highlanders opened the first overtime with seven straight points, but missed four free throws in the final minute and Long Beach State’s Larry Anderson tied it at the buzzer to force the second overtime.
Riverside’s Kyle Austin, who scored 23, hit one of two free throws to pull to 70-69 in the final minute, setting up Scott’s shot and Borum’s free throws in the final seconds.
