High Point defeats Winthrop 63-56
HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP)—Nick Barbour scored 31 points and High Point earned a season sweep over archrival Winthrop with a 63-56 victory on Wednesday night.
Barbour, a freshman, also scored 32 points on Saturday in a 70-68 loss to Coastal Carolina.
The Panthers (7-17, 3-11 Big South Conference) have won two of their last three games after a 1-11 stretch in which their only win was a 42-40 victory over Winthrop on Jan. 7.
The Eagles (6-18, 5-9) have lost five straight.
High Point led by as many as 16 at 41-25 with 15:42 left. Winthrop cut the deficit to 60-56 on a three-point play by Cameron Stanley with 2:55 remaining, but didn’t score again, missing five straight shots.
Besides Barbour, who hit 10 of 20 field goals and 7 of 7 free throws, no other Panthers player scored more than six points.
Andre Jones led Winthrop with 14 points.
