Va. Commonwealth tops James Madison 76-71 in OT
RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Eric Maynor scored 13 of his 22 points in the final 3:02 of regulation and the overtime period to lead Virginia Commonwealth to a 76-71 win over James Madison on Wednesday night.
Brandon Rozzell added 13 points and Joey Rodriguez chipped in 12 for Virginia Commonwealth (18-7, 11-3 Colonial Athletic Association).
After Devon Moore scored James Madison’s final six points of regulation, Maynor responded with the Rams’ final seven. Maynor tied the game at 62 on two free throws with 6.7 seconds left in regulation.
Maynor also scored the Rams’ final basket of the game, hitting a 3-pointer with 20.6 seconds left in overtime for a 75-71 lead.
With the win, the Rams moved into a tie for first place after Northeastern lost to Drexel 62-58 on Wednesday.
Julius Wells led the Dukes (16-10, 8-6) with 20 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
