Wichita St. edges Missouri St. 62-61
WICHITA, Kan. (AP)—Toure Murry swished a 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds remaining to lift Wichita State over Missouri State 62-61 on Tuesday night
The Shocker’s freshman guard finished with a game-high 23 points. J.T. Durley added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Wichita State (12-13, 6-8).
Missouri State (10-15, 3-11) had a chance to win, but Spencer Laurie’s contested layup hit the rim and fell off as time expired. Chris Cooks and Kyle Weems each had 15 points for the Bears.
Wichita State led 36-31 early in the second half. But Laurie scored eight straight points moments later to put the Bears on top 43-40.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Cooks gave Missouri State a 56-50 lead with 6:01 remaining. Durley’s jumper a few minutes later brought the Shockers within 58-57.
Cooks hit one of two free throws with 19.6 seconds to go and Durley grabbed the rebound, leading to Murry’s game-winning 3-pointer.
