Benn leads Niagara past Fairfield
LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP)—Bilal Benn scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Niagara’s 75-50 win over Fairfield Sunday in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Benn went 7-of-13 from the floor with three 3-pointers for Niagara (19-6, 10-3), winners of five straight. Tyrone Lewis added 14 points with 5 rebounds, while Rob Garrison and Austin Cooley each scored 10.
Greg Nero led Fairfield (15-10, 8-6) with 15 points and five rebounds. Lyndon Jordan scored 14 points, while Yorel Hawkins had 13 points and seven boards.
Niagara took a 31-24 lead at halftime despite shooting 33 percent from the floor and converting just one of a dozen 3-point attempts.
But the Purple Eagles stepped up in the second, shooting 15-for-23 while converting seven of 10 shots from beyond the arc.
Niagara held the Stags to just 34.5 percent shooting while forcing 21 Fairfield turnovers.
