Delaware State beats Hampton 49-39
HAMPTON, Va. (AP)—Donald Johnson scored 16 points and Delaware State defeated Hampton 49-39 on Saturday night.
The Hornets (6-18, 4-5 Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference), who averaged 58.1 points per game coming into Saturday’s contest, shot 39.1 percent from the field (18-for-46) and 41.2 percent from 3-point range (7-for-17).
Both teams shot under 30 percent in the first half, and Hampton held a slim 18-15 lead at halftime. Delaware State used a 15-8 run in the second half to take a 36-29 lead after Arturo Dubois’ three-point play with 6:01 remaining.
The Pirates cut the lead to five points, but the Hornets went on a 7-0 run to claim a 45-35 lead with 1:10 remaining.
Hampton (10-12, 4-5) was led by Donte Harrison, who scored 12.
