Maynor leads VCU past William & Mary, 76-54

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Eric Maynor and Larry Sanders each scored 13 points as Virginia Commonwealth took command before halftime, beating William & Mary 76-54 on Saturday night.

The Rams (17-7, 10-3 Colonial Athletic Association) used their fullcourt press to limit William & Mary to just two baskets over more than 12 minutes of the first half. Commonwealth outscored the Tribe 21-5 over one stretch to claim their largest lead at 34-13 with 3:29 left.

The Tribe (7-16, 2-11) trailed by as many as 25 after halftime, losing their eighth in a row. William & Mary shot 38 percent and finished with 19 turnovers and 19 field goals.

David Schneider led the Tribe with 11 points, shooting 10 of 15.

Joey Rodriguez added 11 points for Commonwealth, which swept the season series after being knocked out of the CAA tournament as the top seed by the Tribe in the semifinals last season.
