Chicago State beats Texas-Pan American 78-72

EDINBURG, Texas (AP)—John Cantrell scored 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting to lead Chicago State past Texas-Pan American 78-72 on Saturday night.

Tawrence Walton and Cantrell each hit two free throws in the final 10 seconds to preserve Chicago State’s victory after Emmanuel Jones’ dunk cut the lead to 74-72. Nick Weiermiller missed a 3-pointer for Texas-Pan American with nine seconds left.

David Holston added 14 points for the Cougars (13-12). Carl Montgomery scored 12 and Tawrence Walton added 11.

Jones led the Broncs (6-15) with 27 points on a 12-of-16 shooting performance. Julius Allgood scored 13 points off the bench and Nathan Hawkins added 10.

Texas-Pan American outscored the Cougars in the paint 28-14, but gave up a 21-13 edge in points off turnovers.
