St. Francis battles back to beat Monmouth 82-77
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP)—Jamaal Womack hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 22 seconds left as St. Francis of New York fought back to beat Monmouth 82-77 on Saturday night.
The Terriers (8-15, 6-7 in Northeast Conference) had held double-digit leads for most of the game and led 77-68 with 3:30 left to play, but the Hawks (6-19, 4-8) went on a 9-0 run and tied the game on Alex Nunner’s 3-pointer with 53 seconds remaining.
Womack then made his 3-pointer on the Terriers’ next possession and then sealed the win by hitting two free throws with seven seconds left.
Ricky Cadell scored 23 points to lead St. Francis, while Womack added 18 points and Nigel Byam and Stefan Perunicic both finished with 14. Will Campbell had 27 points for Monmouth, while Travis Taylor added 18 points and eight rebounds and Nunner finished with 16 points and seven boards.
