Manhattan overpowers Marist 67-48
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP)—Junior guard Darryl Crawford had 17 points and Manhattan overpowered Marist 67-48 on Monday night.
Three other Jaspers scored in double digits, including Chris Smith with 12 points, Antoine Pearson had 11 and Laurence Jolicoeur scored 10. Jolicoeur scored his season high in points in the first 12 minutes.
The Red Foxes (7-17, 3-9 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) got off to a strong start, jumping out to a 6-2 lead, holding the Jaspers to one basket in the first 6:11.
The lead changed hands three times in the first half, but Manhattan (12-10, 6-6) pulled away when Crawford made a 3-pointer with 9:11 left in the first half to give the Jaspers a 17-16 lead. The Jaspers took a 33-25 lead at halftime and led by 21 in the second half.
Forward Ryan Schneider led the Red Foxes with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward Korey Bauer scored 12 points and guard Kaylen Gregory added eight points.
A pair of free throws by Bauer brought Marist within five at 45-40 with 10:06 to play, but the Red Foxes couldn’t catch up as the Jaspers closed the game on a 22-8 run.
The victory marks Manhattan’s first regular-season sweep of the Red Foxes since 2003-04.
