Appalachian St. tops Ga. Southern 95-82
STATESBORO, Ga. (AP)—Donald Sims scored a career-high 29 points and Isaac Butts had career-highs of 17 points and 19 rebounds as Appalachian State defeated Georgia Southern 95-82 on Monday night.
The Mountaineers (9-11, 6-6 Southern Conference) led 44-33 at halftime, then shot 68 percent from the field (17 of 25) in the second half.
The Eagles (7-13, 5-7) rallied to cut the margin to 56-53 with 13:13 left.
Ben Drayton III, who had a career-high 22 points, hit a pair of 3-pointers and two other baskets during the Georgia Southern surge.
Appalachian State then used an 8-2 run to pull away and finished the game hitting 22 of 28 free throws. The Mountaineers also had a 45-34 rebounding edge.
Kellen Brand added 18 points for Appalachian State, while Jeremi Booth had 14 and Josh Hunter tallied 10.
Julian Allen chipped in 16 points for the Eagles.
