Detroit beats Youngstown St. in OT, 68-64
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP)—Thomas Kennedy and Woody Payne each scored four points in the final 55 seconds of overtime to give Detroit a 68-64 victory over Youngstown State and the team’s first conference win of the season on Saturday night.
A layup by Youngstown State’s Vytas Sulskis with 12 seconds left in regulation tied the score at 55. But the Penguins went more than 2 1/2 minutes without a field goal in OT, and Kennedy and Payne combined in the final minute to put the game away.
Kennedy finished with 24 points for Detroit (6-15, 1-10 Horizon League), and Payne had 16.
Sulskis led Youngstown State (6-15, 3-8) with 15 points. Tom Parks had 13 and Jack Liles had 12.
