Texas Southern holds off Alabama A&M, 71-67

HOUSTON (AP)—Jacques Jones and Matthew Miller scored 17 points a piece to lead Texas Southern to a 71-67 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday night.

The victory was only the second this season for the Tigers (2-19, 2-6 SWAC), who never trailed after taking the lead on a Jones layup with 15:48 remaining in the first half.

Texas Southern led 54-34 midway through the second half before a frantic comeback by Alabama A&M (5-11, 3-5). The Bulldogs pulled within 69-67 with 30 seconds left but never got off a tying shot attempt in the final seconds.

Trant Simpson scored 18 for Alabama A&M, while Jonathan Belt and Desmond Jackson each scored 11. Casey Cantey scored 10 for the Bulldogs.
