Virginia Commonwealth beats Hofstra 66-62
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP)—Eric Maynor had 21 of his 33 points in the second half and Virginia Commonwealth rallied for a 66-62 victory over Hofstra on Saturday, snapping the Pride’s four-game winning streak.
Maynor, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association player of the year, had nine rebounds and four assists for the Rams (16-6, 9-2), while freshman Bradford Burgess added 11 points.
Charles Jenkins scored 22 points on 5-of-23 shooting for the Pride (14-8 6-5), while Nathaniel Lester had 12.
Tony Dennison’s layup with 4:31 to play gave Hofstra a 58-55 lead, but Maynor scored the last six points of a 9-0 run that gave the Rams a 64-58 lead with 1:40 to play.
