Akron grabs 70-61 road win over Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP)—Darryl Roberts and Brett McKnight put up 12 points apiece with solid free-throw shooting to lead Akron to a 70-61 win at Toledo on Wednesday night.
Roberts went 6-of-7 from the line and McKnight shot 3-for-4 as the Zips (12-8, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) ended the night with four players in double figures. Nikola Cvetinovic had 11 points, and Chris McKnight added 10 points and grabbed six boards.
Toledo (4-16, 2-4) fought back in the second half from a 9-point deficit to within one, but the Rockets couldn’t sustain the comeback. Tyrone Kent tallied 19 points to lead three Toledo players in double figures. Justin Anyijong had 10 points and pulled down 8 rebounds, and Larry Bastfield also had 10 points.
Akron’s bench outscored Toledo’s, 29-17. The Zips also capitalized on Toledo’s mistakes, scoring 26 points on turnovers compared with the Rockets’ 13.
