Holy Cross defeats Colgate 68-44
WORCESTER,Mass (AP)—Colin Cunningham scored 13 points and R.J. Evans 12 to lead Holy Cross to a 68-44 victory over Colgate in Patriot League play Wednesday night.
Holy Cross (10-11, 5-1) which never trailed in the game, is in sole possession of first place in the league.
Yaw Gyawu scored 15 points for Colgate (6-13, 2-4), whose leading scorer Kyle Roemer is out for the season with a knee injury.
Gyawu led a 12-3 run spanning both halves to cut an 11-point deficit to 28-24 with 18:32 left in the game.
But Andrew Beinert scored two 3-pointers and had a key steal as he and Evans led a decisive 17-4 Holy Cross run in the second half. Evans scored three field goals in the spree. The Crusaders took an insurmountable 45-28 lead with 13:01 left. Beinert finished with 8 points.
Mike Venezia added 9 for Colgate.
