Alabama A&M defeats Southern 60-57
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP)—Trant Simpson scored 15 points to propel Alabama A&M to a 60-57 win over Southern University on Monday night.
Trailing by two points with less than two minutes remaining in the second half, Simpson hit a jumper to tie the game at 57 with 1:35 remaining. Southern turned the ball over, and John Smith tipped in Simpson’s 3-point miss to put the Bulldogs up 59-57. The Jaguars turned the ball over again, and Simpson made one of two free-throw attempts for the final margin.
The Bulldogs (5-10, 3-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) shot 43.6 percent from the field (24-for-55).
Southern (3-17, 3-5) had 20 turnovers in the game. In the final 1:30, the Jaguars turned the ball over three times.
The Jaguars were led by Chris Davis, who scored 16 points. Southern shot 39 percent from the field (23-for-59).
