Manhattan beats Fairfield 65-60
NEW YORK (AP)—Chris Smith scored 16 points, including four free throws over the final 49 seconds, and Manhattan held off Fairfield 65-60 on Monday night.
Darryl Crawford also had 16 points for the Jaspers (11-9, 5-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference).
Jonathan Han and Mike Evanovich both had 11 points for the Stags (12-9, 5-5).
Antoine Pearson’s layup with 10:20 to play gave Manhattan its biggest lead of the game, 45-32. Fairfield went on a 21-9 run and pulled within 54-53 on Anthony Johnson’s three-point play with 4:38 left.
Manhattan scored the next five points and Fairfield never got closer than four the rest of the way.
Han’s 3-pointer brought the Stags within 64-60 with 20 seconds left, but Crawford hit a free throw before Mike Evanovich missed a 3-point attempt in the final seconds.
