Jacksonville beats Florida Gulf Coast 75-65
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP)—Ben Smith scored 24 points as Jacksonville topped Florida Gulf Coast 75-65 on Sunday.
Lehmon Colbert added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Dolphins (11-8, 9-1 Atlantic Sun Conference), who rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to notch their eighth-straight win.
Reed Baker scored 15 to lead FGCU (9-13, 5-6).
In a fast-paced start, the teams were tied three times before FGCU ended the first half on a 9-4 run to lead 29-24 at halftime.
Behind 12 points from Christian Wolf, FGCU built a 43-32 margin in the second half. However, Jacksonville came right back with a 13-0 run, capped by Chris Edwards’ 3-pointer.
With the teams tied at 57-all, Jacksonville used a 9-1 run to pull away and stayed ahead by hitting late free throws.
Tevin Galvin added 10 points for Jacksonville, including two 3-pointers. Derrick O’Neil scored 10 for FGCU.
