North Florida beats Stetson 55-53
DELAND, Fla. (AP)—Cortez Riley’s buzzer-beating, 15-foot jumper gave North Florida a 55-53 win over Stetson on Sunday.
Riley’s off-balanced shot gave North Florida (4-16, 2-8 Atlantic Sun Conference) its first-ever win over instate rival Stetson (8-11, 5-6), who leads the all-time series 7-1. The guard finished with seven points.
Eni Cuka led the Ospreys with 17 points, while Zack Riggins had 16.
Stetson’s Kris Thomas led all scorers with 19 points. Garfield Blair added 12 and nine rebounds for the Hatters, who also got 10 points from Eric Diaz.
North Florida trailed 40-27 with 15:36 to play in the game when the Ospreys went on a 17-3 run, taking their first lead with 6:39 left.
Diaz tied the game at 53 when he made the first of two Hatters’ free throws with 14 seconds left. UNF’s Stan Januska got the rebound on the second, setting up Riley’s game-winner.
