Louisiana-Monroe beats Fla. International 81-64

MONROE, La. (AP)—Dynile Forbes scored 21 points and Louisiana-Monroe defeated Florida International 81-64 on Saturday night.

The Warhawks (7-13, 3-6 Sun Belt Conference) took a 34-21 lead into halftime. Ahead 39-29 with 15:46 to play, Louisiana-Monroe made 12 of its next 14 field-goal attempts and proceeded to lead by as many as 26 points in the second half.

FIU (8-14, 3-6) outrebounded Louisiana-Monroe in the first half 26-16, but the Warhawks dominated the boards in the second half 22-7.

Malcolm Thomas added 17 points for the Warhawks, while Afam Nweke had 15 and Kenneth Averette tied a career-high with 14.

Alex Galindo led the Golden Panthers with 20 points, becoming the eighth player in school history to score 900 career points. Russell Hicks, who had missed the previous 14 games with a stress fracture, added 11 points and Joseu Soto had 10.
