Iona beats Manhattan 71-51
NEW YORK (AP)—Scott Machado scored 13 points to lead Iona to a 71-51 victory over Manhattan on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.
Gary Springer had 11 points and Devon Clarke added 10 for the Gaels (10-10, 5-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who won for the fifth time in six games.
Darryl Crawford had 21 points for the Jaspers (10-9, 4-5), who have lost three of four.
Iona took a 34-18 lead as the Jaspers managed to shoot just 17.9 percent from the field (5-for-28), including missing all 10 of their 3-point attempts.
The Gaels shot 54.2 percent (13-for-24) in the first half and they kept up the hot shooting in the second half, going 13-for-25 to finish 53.1 percent for the game.
The closest Manhattan got in the second half was 48-34 on a drive by Antoine Pearson with 8:48 to play. Iona led by 25 points twice, the last time at 70-45 with 1:11 to go.
