Jackson State defeats Grambling State 83-58
GRAMBLING, La. (AP)—Grant Maxey scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half to help Jackson State rout Grambling State 83-58 on Saturday night.
Jackson State (6-13, 5-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took a 42-33 lead into halftime, then clamped down defensively in the second half by holding Grambling State to 37.5-percent shooting from the floor (9 of 24).
Grambling State (5-13, 3-4) tied the score at 2-2, then trailed the rest of the way as Jackson State hit 31 of 54 shots for the game (57.4 percent).
Jackson State scored 25 points off 15 Grambling State turnovers, while giving up only six points on 11 miscues.
Darrion Griffin added 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals for Jackson State, while Garrison Johnson had 16 points.
Donald Qualls was the only Grambling State player to score in double figures with 14 points.
