Canisius tops Marist, 79-70; Turner has 22 points
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP)—Frank Turner had 22 points as Canisius beat Marist on Friday, 79-70.
Elton Frazier and Tomas Vazquez-Simmons scored 12 points apiece for Canisius (7-12, 2-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), and Greg Logins had 11 rebounds. Three Golden Griffins played the entire game.
Canisius shot almost 48 percent from the floor, despite going 5-for-17 from long range.
Ryan Schneider had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Marist (7-14, 3-6 MAAC), and Mike Taylor came off the bench to score 12 points for the Red Foxes. David Devezin and Lawrence Williams added 10 each.
Ball control was a persistent weak spot for Marist, which turned the ball over 16 times and logged only six assists.
The Golden Griffins led for the entire second half, but their buffer didn’t exceed five points until the final minute.
