Monmouth beats Long Island 74-73
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP)—Alex Nunner scored the last 11 points for Monmouth, including the game-winning basket with 8 seconds remaining, to lift the Hawks to a 74-73 victory over Long Island Thursday night.
The Hawks (6-14, 4-4 NEC) trailed 71-65 with 2:51 remaining, but Nunner delivered a drive down the lane and a 3-pointer to pull them within a point. David Hicks hit two free throws to put LIU up 73-70, and Nunner answered with two free throws. After LIU (9-9, 5-3) then missed a 3-point attempt, Nunner drove to the basket to score the game winner.
Nunner was the leading scorer for the Hawks with 14 points. Teammates Myers Keitt, Yaniv Simpson and Travis Taylor each scored 10.
Jaytornah Wisseh led the Blackbirds with 22 points, while Kyle Johnson had 18.
