Providence beats Cincinnati 72-63
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP)—Randall Hanke scored 15 points on 7-for-7 shooting and Providence beat the Bearcats 72-63 on Monday night.
Hanke and center Jonathan Kale were the lone sure hands for the Friars (12-6, 4-2 Big East Conference), collectively shooting 12-for-13 from the field while their teammates combined to shoot 30 percent.
Cincinnati’s Mike Williams led the game with a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds for the Bearcats (12-7, 2-4).
Providence led 32-29 at the half despite going 2-for-12 from beyond the arc and tossing up half a dozen air balls.
The Friars and Bearcats traded baskets for much of the second half until Providence strung together a 12-2 run to take a 10-point lead with 8:21 remaining.
Providence led by as many as 17 before Cincinnati pulled within 5 with 42 seconds left, but a Brian McKenzie slam dunk put the game out of reach.
