Florida A&M defeats Coppin State 60-56
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP)—Lamar Twitty scored 21 points and hit the game-clinching free throws with nine seconds left to lead Florida A&M to its fourth straight win, a 60-56 victory over Coppin State on Monday night.
The Rattlers (6-10, 4-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led by as many as 16 points, but the Eagles (3-15, 1-4) pulled to within two when Tywain McKee’s floater with 12 seconds left made the score 58-56. Then Twitty, who scored 13 of his 21 in the second half, made both free throws.
FAMU hit eight 3-pointers in the first half, but went cold from outside in the second, going 1-for-6. Dale Hughes, who hit four first-half 3s, had 12 points.
Sam Coleman led the Eagles with 14 points and Michael Harper added 10.
McKee, who entered the game averaging 19.7 points per game, did not score from the floor until 10 minutes remained and finished with 12.
