Chattanooga edges Appalachian State 78-74 in OT
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP)—Kevin Goffney had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Chattanooga held off Appalachian State 78-74 in overtime Thursday night to win three straight games for the first time this season.
The Mocs (7-10, 3-3 Southern Conference) were playing in their first overtime game since a 71-70 loss at East Tennessee State on Nov. 15, 2006, while the Mountaineers (6-8, 3-3), lost their second overtime game in a week. They also fell 85-83 to North Carolina-Greensboro on Saturday.
Trailing 77-74, Appalachian State had a chance to tie the game with a 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining, but Jeremi Booth’s shot rimmed out. Nicchaeus Doaks grabbed the rebound, his 11th of the game, was fouled and put the game away by making the second of two free throw attempts.
Stephen McDowell added 18 points for Chattanooga.
Kellen Brand paced Appalachian State with 21 points.
